I was born and raised in Essex England. I've always been a bit of a dreamer and I suppose I've always wanted to write, but growing up I assumed that this was what other people did. In my twenties I tried my hand at writing science fiction, I thought 'that will be easy, I just have to use my imagination' but writing good original Sci-Fi is absurdly difficult. Then life gets in the way in the form of work, marriage, more work, children, more work etc... But I do remember the exact point where I decided to actually start, it was June 23rd 2011 at around 6.50 pm. I was on my way home from work and approaching a junction onto the A10. I was thinking about two terrible books I had read on holiday - maybe I should have been thinking about the junction I was approaching. Anyway, one book had wholly illogical scenarios that even suspension of belief couldn't resolve, and the other kept using the same six word phrase. They were almost an insult to read. I thought to myself 'I could write better than that' and my next thought was 'I suppose I'd better try' so I did. I was tentative at first and unsure of what I was doing (didn't actually have a clue), but it wasn't until I retired from work to look after elderly parents that I found the time to put my ideas together into the novel that became the first in the Astrid series first self-published in 2019. I now write constantly and I am constantly learning.
