Summer Seline was born in 1956 to an artist mother and an engineer father. The family moved every two years until settling permanently in New Brunswick, Canada in 1967. Summer experienced early success with her poetry and won multiple competitions from the age of four. Her book of poetry and artwork, SONGS OF THE SUNS was published by a European publisher in 1964. In her teens, she won Honorable Mention in Canada-wide short story competitions. Her poetry was published widely.
Growing up, Summer did not have the advantages most other children and teens take for granted. She was unwanted, unloved, neglected, and abused physically, psychologically, verbally, and sexually. She was bullied throughout school during her years in New Brunswick in addition to the abuse she endured at home. Victim-shaming was running rampant during the 1960’s, 1970’s and beyond. A highly sensitive and shy young woman, she struggled with extreme PTSD during her entire life. She fell through the cracks.
Yet, through it all, with no support or guidance from anyone, she completed her B.A. in Sociology and English Literature and took graduate courses in Counseling and Psychology, got married, gave birth to a cherished daughter, and made an oath to be the kind of mother she never had. She held board positions, an editorial position, had her poetry published in journals, and founded and facilitated two women’s groups.
Her true passion was always writing novels, and her teen years were spent writing women’s fiction and mysteries, which she shared with her neighbors. Throughout her chaotic life, during which parental abuse continued and was compounded by mental abuse from her husband’s family and colleagues, as well as her own friends and colleagues, her writing suffered greatly, and she was unable to complete most of her projects.
In her late fifties, she became a recluse, and being away from toxic influences enabled her to blossom both psychologically and creatively.
