Hi, my name is Shannon L. Mokry. I always knew I wanted to be a mommy, this knowledge has given me a special heart for children and children’s needs. I’ve been a stay at home mom since my oldest child was born, and I started homeschooling shortly after my youngest was born. It hasn’t always been easy, but I am loving the adventures we have together. One of those adventures was publishing my own children’s books.

Writing and publishing children’s book had the added benefit of using my education. I split my college education between Early Childhood Development and English Studies. As a young adult I never would have guessed that I’d write children’s books, but looking back at my passions and talents, it makes perfect sense.

Shannon Mokry's books

Escaping Gardenia

Friendships are forged in the most unlikely of places.

From a kingdom at war with dragons, Ivy is sent to scout out a path to safety. Along the way she learns about magic and accidentally hatches a baby dragon.

Safety is the next kingdom over. Vlad, a gamekeepers apprentice, joins in the effort to help the refugees. His only intent is to help as many people find safety as he can.

Making new friends was the last thing either of them expected. Can they get Ivy's village to safety and learn to trust each other? Or will they learn to late that even well meaning secret can have big consequences?

Saving Gardenia

Ivy, a bakers daughter, finds that the new life in Ensourcium doesn't offer the new start she had hoped for. Maybe it's her? She just isn't adjusting to life as 'normal'. Maybe it's the baby dragon that's adopted her? The dragon is definitely causing tension at home. As for friends, well that's a whole different set of complications.

A complication in the form of a prince who doesn't act like a Prince.

Prince Vlad isn't finding home to be the warm welcoming place the word 'home' might bring to mind. He's now the only heir to the throne, with no experience or training for that role. Its a job he doesn't want. Add to that how badly he has messed up his friendship with Ivy and well, he jumps at the chance to go back out into the woods and just be Vlad again. He has no problem leaving the title behind. There will be plenty of time to learn how to run the kingdom after his parents come to grips with his brother exiling himself.

Back at the border, forces of magic seem to have other ideas.

The Little Pink Elephant

The little pink elephant loved to sing and dance. She is jubilant and boisterous.

The Little Pink Elephant is a little different from the other elephants. This story encourages children to shine their brightest. The little pink elephant knows that its about spreading joy to others.

La Elefantita Rosadita

¡CANTA FUERTE! ¡BRILLA BRILLANTE!

La elefantita rosadita le encantaba cantar y bailar.
Ella estaba jubilosa y bulliciosa.

"Silencio, quédate quieta", los otros le decía a menudo.

Let everyday be an adventure!

No matter how different we each are...

The little purple porcupine loved to explore.

She had to learn he was more capable than she thought.

They both learn that different is okay.

The Little Purple Porcupine is a story about a mothers worry for her child. Every mother worries, but some worry is restrictive and hurtful. When a child is different a mothers worry can create barriers for her child. I want to show that just because a child is different, it doesn't mean they can't thrive in the world. If we let them. If we help them, they can do more than survive, then can thrive!

Every child wants to have friends, so when gossip rears its ugly head what is a child to do? The Little Yellow Llama just keeps being herself. Giving into peer pressure just isn't the answer to this problem. It takes some time but her example shows the other Llama's that they are all more alike than they thought, and they can each be different at the same time. Kindness and friendship win the day!

The Sloth and the Snail

The Sloth and the Snail move at the same slow pace in a fast paced world.

"The Sloth and the Snail" is a story of finding contentment.

In a world filled with flashy fast things,

The Sloth fills left behind.

That is until... the sloth discovers the snail.

Can a simple little snail compare to the bright colors flashing by?

Today's children are being bombarded with ads, flashy new toys and games, and images that make them feel like they are lacking somehow, much like the sloth. So how do we teach contentment? We slow down, like a sloth and a snail, we show our children the beauty in the small slow things in life. Who knows maybe we will get a reminder as well...

Little Panda What Do You See?

"Little Panda, What Do You See?" is a story of curiosity. Every child wants to see and explore the big wide world. They see the birds in the sky, the trees outside, things in the distance that they aren't allowed to touch or explore. What will Little Panda finally see?

The Little Golden Hen

Backyard chickens are a great source for learning and teaching kids about the world.
The care and keeping of chickens is more than just food and water.
It is also caring for their safety, from putting them to bed at night…to saving them from their own silly behavior.
Like hoarding treats instead of enjoying them.
Hmm, maybe kids and chickens have more in common than I thought.
After all, who doesn’t love a good chicken story?
