Raised in Liverpool, on the banks of the River Mersey, Robert F Barker joined the Police straight from grammar school. During a thirty-year career, he served in and around the Northwest of England, mainly as a CID Detective, gradually working his way through the ranks to senior officer.
Whilst in CID, he played a key role in establishing the UK’s first Regional Criminal Intelligence Network, which later evolved into the National Criminal Intelligence Service, the precursor to today’s National Crime Agency. As a Senior Investigating Officer, he headed investigations into all types of major crimes, including murder, armed robbery, serious sex crimes and drug trafficking. Later, as a Firearms Incident and Divisional Commander, he learned what it means to have to make life-and-death decisions in the heat of ‘live’ operations.
The author’s family home is in Cheshire but also has a base on the beautiful Mediterranean island of Cyprus, where he is working on a series of Cyprus-based thrillers to compliment his UK Crime novels.
