Hairy Fairy

'Fizzy is a funny fairy, the problem is she's rather hairy.'

Actually, being hairy is only one of Fizzy's problems. She's also messy, noisy, wilful and wild. She's not at all like a fairy should be.

But somehow, though Fizzy gets most things wrong, she seems to get the important things right: like looking after her friends, thinking for herself and standing up to bullies (even if they are only rabbits and bats).

A rhyming picture book for children from 3 to 8 years, with pictures on every page. An engaging story to listen to at bedtime, or a good book for early readers. Paperback, 32 pages.

Isabella, Rotten Speller

Isabella, Rotten Speller is a winning combination of educational and daft.

It is set in Rhyme, a place where everything and everybody is made of letters and words:
Can you imagine a place like that?
Where every dog and every cat,
And every owl and every bat,
And even the children, come to that,
Were made of letters and sometimes words?
I know, the whole thing sounds absurd...

All is happy in the town of Rhyme until the unexpected arrival of a little witch Isabella (a lovely girl but a rotten speller). Chaos ensues as Isabella's rotten spells and rotten spelling wreak havoc on the word-based nation, until, of course, it all ends happily ever after.

A funny, rhyming picture book for children from 3 to 8 years, with colourful letter-based pictures on every page. An engaging story to listen to or look at at bedtime, or a good book for early readers. Paperback, 32 pages.

Jamie and the Joke Factory

'I say, I say, I say, what do you get when you cross a story book with a joke book?'
'I don't know, what do you get when you cross a story book with a joke book?'
'Jamie and the Joke Factory!'

This colourful picture book tells the story of a little boy called Jamie, and his surprise day out at the joke factory. Haven't heard of a joke factory? Well neither had Jamie, but jokes have to be made somewhere, and a joke factory is the place they are made. Join Jamie and Grandad as they watch 'doctor, doctor' jokes; 'I say, I say, I say' jokes; 'knock, knock' jokes; and puns role off the production line.

'Jamie and the Joke Factory' is not really like Roald Dahl's 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory', though the owner of the factory is called Billy Bonkers! This book is full of word- and picture-based jokes, extending the appeal of the picture book to slightly older children and even reluctant readers.

This is a colourful picture book for children from 3 to 8+ years, crammed full of jokes. It is a funny, engaging story to listen to at bedtime, or a good book for early readers.

Isabella's Adventures in Numberland

Isabella is back for her second adventure! In this colourful, rhyming picture book, the accident-prone little witch falls through a hole in the ground and lands in Numberland – a place where nothing quite adds up (because all the numbers have disappeared!) She makes new friends, encounters an old enemy and, though the odds are against her, finally saves the day. YOU CAN COUNT ON ISABELLA! Readers of Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland will see some parallels between Isabella’s Adventures in Numberland and that wonderful, crazy children’s classic. Fans of Isabella, Rotten Speller will also love Isabella’s Adventures in Numberland. Peta Rainford has created a book that buzzes with vibrant, amusing pictures and interesting, funny, rhyming words. This book will encourage young children to think about the importance of numbers and how numbers are used in our everyday lives, while at the same time being very, very silly! A useful tool for parents and teachers and a fun story for early readers and younger children who enjoy being read to.

The Niggle

The Niggle tells the story of Joe Jackson, a little boy who has never felt fear. Until the day a miniature monster swims in his ear! The monster is the Niggle, a tiny terror, who whispers worries in Joe’s head and makes him afraid. Will Joe Jackson let the Niggle win? Or will he learn to overcome his fears? The Niggle, through humour and rhyme, tells young children that it’s OK to feel fear. In fact, you can’t be brave if you don’t. A colourful, rhyming picture book for the under-8s.

Jacob Starke Loves the Dark

An important environmental issue is tackled with beautiful illustrations, humour and a light touch.

Milly's Marvellous Mistakes

Milly's Marvellous Mistakes is a funny, rhyming picture book for the X-factor generation of children brought up to expect overnight success and instant gratification! Our hero, Milly May, more than anything, wants to paint beautiful pictures. But she always ends up with blots and smudges. She really WISHES she was a better artist, and then – hey presto! – her fairy godmother appears (looking a little bit like the artist Frida Khalo!) and grants her wish.Milly is soon turning out paintings in the style of famous artists, including: Van Gogh and Da Vinci! Like Peta Rainford’s previous book, The Niggle, it tackles the issue of resilience in a humorous, imaginative and child-friendly way. This book would be great for early readers or as a bedtime story for children of around 4 to 8 years of age.

Crab, Dab & Blenny

Fish friends Dab and Blenny are upset by the plastic that washes into their lovely rockpool home. Crab, on the other hand, just LOVES the shiny bright colour... But when Blenny gets caught in plastic twine, Crab finally understands the danger of plastics in the ocean.
Inspired by the rockpools of the Isle of Wight, Crab, Dab & Blenny is a fun, rhyming picture book about friendship, with an important environmental message about plastic pollution.
It's a great way of introducing young children to this important issue, whether they are independent early readers or cuddling up for a bedtime story. It's also a great resource for teachers in Key Stage 1 (KS1).
