Coaching Presence, Building Consciousness and Awareness into Coaching Interventions

By Maria Iliffe-Wood

Effective coaches are aware of how their presence affects their interactions with their clients. They understand how their values, beliefs and other factors affect their coaching interventions. It takes practice and skill to notice these influences, which can manifest themselves both physically and mentally, while simultaneously sustaining a client-focussed approach through the coaching session.
Coaching Presence examines how you can build self-awareness across key aspects of your coaching practice. It introduces a new model that will help you make every approach or intervention that you use with your client the result of a conscious and deliberate choice. It explores how, by paying close attention to the motivations behind the decisions you make in coaching, and to how you are 'being', you can minimise any unconscious influences and bias to produce the best outcome for your client and their wider system.
