North Carolina writer, Mandy Monath, earned a B.A. from Salem College in Classics and English, and an M.A. from UNC-Chapel Hill. She has published a collection of poetry \"This Is Like That: Poems and Process\" (2022) and essays in various publications including The Christian Science Monitor. Her plays, co-written with Karin Gleiter, have been performed at the Raleigh (NC) Little Theater and Carrboro (NC) Arts Center. She has home-schooled, taught elementary English and Latin, and directed Children’s Education at her church, where Vacation Bible School always included an original comic skit. Her children’s book, \"How Counting Came to Be\" (Spring 2024), takes cave girl, Ugh Poppi, on a comic and enlightening adventure to discover the real meaning of numbers.
