I am a Dutch New-Zealander, born on the first of July 1962 in Auckland. As many of ALLI I guess I always wanted to be an author and was off to a head start until I got bombarded into the Netherlands as a 10-year old. My only goal then was to get back to NZ.
Back in New Zealand, after many years, I did do a Diploma in Creative writing at Whitireia Polytechnic and then moved back to the Netherlands but in the north where I now live happily with Wim and cat Max. I wrote my first book My Name is Wilma in 2021, which in 2023 I translated and edited into Dutch as Wilma een Wereldkat.
I am now working on a reader magnet called Wilma's Tulip Field Days.

Great adventures of a cat whizzed to the other side of the world.
Wilma was found on the Dutch tulip fields, only to be taken to New Zealand. She ponders why she has to put up with her humans' constant endeavours to find a better life. While they work hard and worry about their work-life balance, Wilma says her "only struggle is of the indoor-outdoorsy kind".
She sneaks out on adventures with Stella whose eyes "shine like big stars", and with unlikely best friend Bobby who takes her on a tour around his olive grove and beyond.
Wilma's observations are quirky as she comments on life in New Zealand - "the insulation was a joke that did not make me laugh". And when, ten years later, she finds herself back in the Netherlands again, Wilma decides it is time to tell her story.
If you love cats and travelling, you'll adore Wilma's book. It's both funny and sad, and mainly about following your heart.

De auteur Kirsten Bett (1 juli 1962, Auckland, Nieuw-Zeeland) begon met schrijven toen ze kon lezen, voordat ze als 10-jarige naar Nederland verhuisde en zich verloor in een taal met keelgeluiden en onbekende lidwoorden.
“Op een gegeven moment zette ik ‘het’ voor elk woord, maar dat was ook weer niet goed.”
Terug in Nieuw-Zeeland, heeft Kirsten een diploma in creatief schrijven behaald. Het eerste boek dat volgde, schreef zij in het Engels en heette My name is Wilma. Dit boek is voor de Nederlandse lezers herschreven en vertaald.
