I grew up in Little Rock, Arkansas. I was appointed to the US Naval Academy, graduating in 1977, and was commissioned a 2nd Lt. US Marine Corps.
I spent 13 years on active duty as an infantry officer. I was fortunate enough to travel to many countries during my service.
I recently retired from the federal government and now live in San Angelo, TX. I am married, with two grown children, and a grandchild on the way.

I did not intend to become an author, it happened almost by accident, but I enjoy it. I have my own publishing company, Huginn's Gambit Press LLC, which for now is only to publish my books, but I have hopes of publishing other indie authors.

My Duty

“It is a good day to die, and I have done my duty.”
Gavin Ross, retired Marine, thought his life of action was over, but while on vacation in Scotland, he stumbles upon a plot to kidnap a British princess and her children. When Gavin thwarts an attack on the royal family, he puts a target on his back. Now, he's in the crosshairs of a dangerous arms dealer who will stop at nothing to grow his business-including leveraging the Royals. For his courageous actions, Gavin is awarded honors and titles. He is confused and conflicted but tries to live up to expectations. While he is doing this, his unknown enemy plots. Gavin soon discovers that danger stalks his new household staff as well as himself.
Although concerned by potential danger, Gavin is not one to fret. He adjusts to his new status and takes on a special project--mentoring two young women he meets.
Then he finds out how far his unseen enemy is willing to go--Gavin's daughter and grandchild are attacked. Life is precarious, and he must find a way to prepare.

Enemy In The Shadows

“Strength is a fire fueled by trial and adversity.”
Still recovering from near-fatal wounds received during his daring, albeit unplanned, rescue of members of the Royal Family from kidnappers, Gavin Ross has been knighted and is suddenly a wealthy Scottish duke. Being a modern-day duke requires adjustment, especially for an American, as does being a mentor to two young people. Gavin’s new proteges have come to him to learn; books are only the beginning. They will be pushed to their limits—and beyond.
A shadowy adversary is out to kill him and everyone around him; his family has already been attacked in Texas, and more attacks are sure to follow. MI6 and Scotland Yard are searching for the enemy, but they can’t be everywhere at once. To protect his family, his House, and the Royals, Gavin will bend every law and rule—or simply plow through them.
Has Gavin just given his foe the perfect opening by bringing the two young women into his household? Will they become sacrificial pawns in a high-stakes game of chess?

Gathering Storm

Through death, a hero becomes a legend. – Joseph Campbell
Gavin Ross, Duke of Craignish and Striven, finds his life ever more complicated. Danger is at every hand, and the castle holds still more mysteries. Athena and Minerva have narrowly escaped a fate worse than death in Rome, but they don’t let that slow them down. Gavin and the women are on the hunt for two boys to become acolytes when the girls’ year is finished. They find them, but they also find something, or rather someone, none of them were looking for—could Gavin find happiness?
Gavin still has a target on his back, and his household is in danger, as is the village. Will his foe finally make his move? If he does, Gavin may be reminded that victory always comes at a cost, and that pain is not always physical.
