Rude Awakening
By Jacqueline James
A story of loss, evolving friendship and self discovery.
Hilary has never left home and at fifty-five uncomplainingly looks after her progressively disabled but feisty mother.
Her mother dies suddenly and Hilary is thrown into a spiral of despair. With support from her friends she comes to terms with the loss. The discovery of a manuscript amongst her mother’s things makes her realise that she had not known the woman she had lived with.
Becoming freer from the ties to her mother the bonds with her friends deepen and with their help she begins to learn to live life for herself.
