J. M. Holmes was born and raised in Canada and educated in the Classics by Jesuits and nuns who would likely be disappointed to see the results of their efforts.
A Renaissance polymath, Holmes has been the Editor of the bilingual magazine for Glendon College in Toronto; the Editor of that city’s French-language newspaper, Le Metropolitain; a successful magazine publisher; and Director of the Davis Film Festival in Davis, California.
Recipient of the 2005 Heroes Award from the American Red Cross, Holmes has also received commendations from the U.S. Senate, the U.S. House of Representatives, the California Legislature, and the City of Davis, California, in recognition of extraordinary charity work.
Holmes is also the winner of awards in California for running a business with outstanding environmental practices and from Rotary International for producing that charity’s weekly publication.
Sadly, Holmes bears some measure of responsibility for the overpopulation of Planet Earth, having participated in the creation of two additional humans, Alex & Sarah, both of whom are college students working hard at honing their skills in questioning authority and challenging conventional wisdom.
Currently, J. M. Holmes resides in the United States and shares a home with seven feral cats.

Retrievers: A Space Adventure Anthology
From award-winning author J.M. Holmes: a collection of four popular tales of Holmes’s resourceful adventurers, Jerry and Kat.
To be a Retriever means living a solitary life constantly on edge, and when you’re carrying a Discovery you’re in danger every minute until you deliver your find to the authorities on Earth.
Kat is a Retriever and has always worked alone, but she meets Jerry when he saves her life from a murderous assailant and from that moment on the two are inseparable.
Beginning with the story that first introduced the duo, this anthology follows the couple as they travel the galaxy matching wits with dangerous kidnappers, murderous smugglers, double-crossing partners and ruthless competitors.
Praised for their inventive plots and exciting episodes, these compelling stories mix action and suspense with playful banter between the two heroes as their blossoming romance develops.
If you like classic science fiction adventure then you'll love reading these stories and getting to know Jerry and Kat, two of the most likeable characters to emerge in many years.
Ice, Ice, Baby: Space Adventure Suspense Mysteries
From award-winning author J.M. Holmes: three exciting science fiction novellas in one volume!
In "Ice, Ice, Baby" a team of scientists stranded on an ice planet are fighting against time as their science station slowly overheats, threatening to cook them alive. At the same time, a murderous saboteur is killing them off one by one as he works to destroy their mission. To stay alive the scientists must unmask the saboteur and restore their station’s life support systems before the ice outside swallows their grounded ship. It’s a sci-fi yarn of suspense, mystery, and pulse-pounding tension.
"Prodigy" is a tale of preternatural suspense that follows a pair of parapsychologists as they are slowly drawn down into a rabbit’s hole of psychic perception, unwitting pawns in a nefarious plot woven by their mysterious employer.
"Time Trial" is a fascinating foray into a paradoxical world of multiple time jumps, as the main character ends up working alongside countless past and future versions of himself to complete a complicated project requiring hundreds of workers – all of whose duties he alone must perform.
With nail-biting suspense and terrific characters, this volume of three engrossing tales is guaranteed to satisfy any reader looking for an entertaining blend of science fiction, action and mystery, with humour and romance mixed in.
