I have been writing for over twenty years in wide range of forms and styles, and released my debut novel "To Die For" in 2017. This was followed by two poetry collections and the publication of my play "No Smoke", which gained high praise from BAFTA winner Geoff Thompson. The second novel in the DI Stone trilogy, "Innocent Lies" was published in 2022.

My Greatest inspirations in Crime are Simon Kernick, Mark Billingham, Michael Robotham, to name but a few. Having also develop a taste for Audiobooks, Stuart Macbride and JD Kirk also feature top of my list.

Independent writing is still where I reside, as an author and supports working with fellow writers with the formatting, design and publication of their books. Full details are on my website.

To Die For

Are shadows of a past fuelled by hate becoming the dark echoes of his future?

WHAT ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO SEE? When a woman’s body is discovered posed in a grotesque tableau, DI Mike Stone knows he is not looking at a textbook crime of passion or circumstance.

HOW FAR WILL YOU HAVE TO GO? Everything about the scene says it is only the brutal beginning of a killer’s dark story about to stampede its way through the centre of Birmingham.

WHAT IS WAITING FOR YOU AT THE END? DI Stone soon finds himself at the centre of an investigation spiralling out of control, threatening to spill blood in his personal life.

Innocent Lies

'A highly intelligent and thought provoking page turning thriller.'
'The central, tragic love story is by turns heartbreaking, shocking and deeply touching.'
'A necessary read in today’s society.'

The holy trinity of tragedy

A girl balances on the edge of a high bridge over a canal with her newborn in her arms. A homeless teenage boy is discovered on an industrial estate, the victim of a brutal beating. The detective who found him is shot and left for dead.

A girl with no future. A boy with no past. An investigation with no leads.
When a combination of old and new evidence links the girl on the bridge and the boy found badly beaten, DI Mike Stone is forced to ask disturbing questions regarding coincidences he can’t ignore. The personal relationship linking pathologist Dr Reg Walters to the boy threatens to complicate the case.

Organised crime and Police corruption. A deadly combination.
DI Stone and his team face an emotionally charged case where the line between victim and suspect becomes blurred. Will the pursuit of truth and justice be burnt by the flames of revenge? Or will the loss of innocence and the sacrifice of hope turn the world darker than it’s ever been before?

Silhouette in the Sunset: one hundred poems on the futility of war

Shed all the tears for one-hundred more years,
but our compass is now moral-rotten.
How dare we proclaim each year just the same
when each war says we’ve all long forgotten?
Silhouette in the Sunset has been created in tribute to the 100th year anniversary of the end of World War One. It is an unashamed pacifist voice throughout, written from a philosophical, social, political, and personal perspective.

I hope to have captured a range of expression through rhythm, form, language and imagery, raising more questions than ever attempting to offer answers or solutions. Perhaps one major theme is how it seems increasingly difficult in this morally fractured world to truly differentiate between friend and foe.

Ripples: a collection of poetry

Ripples is an exploration of the effect and influence we have on each other–sometimes to build, at other times to break–as we share the world around us. Freedom and fate are woven together like the interplay between waves of our greatest oceans.

“History counts for nothing if it betrays a future,
even with the beauty and miracle of life.”

This collection brings together poems written in a range of styles and forms, including free verse, haiku, and a number of experimental rhythmic and rhyming structures.

No Smoke

No Smoke is a play about truth, perceptions and lies amidst an uncomfortable relationship between the law, the media and society.

Detective Sergeant Ellen Cross is forced to revisit a child abuse investigation which failed to result in a conviction years ago. Is the same suspect on the hunt again?

As another local boy appears to become his new prey, the connections to the previous case begin to point towards some darker secrets lurking in the shadows.

Investigating the case off-duty, and against all advice, DS Cross must avoid triggering vigilante action from the boy’s emotionally fragile father as she tries to find justice for a family torn apart by tragedy.

“Brave, brave theatre; strong writing; this is theatre at its most challenging; this is what theatre is all about.”
Geoff Thompson, BAFTA Award winner
