After selling our Seattle-based translation business and relocating to the beautiful landscapes of Maui and later Florida, we never imagined we’d venture into the world of storytelling. But the rich wildlife of Cape Coral sparked our creativity, leading us to craft engaging narratives for children.
Take, for example, the marsh hares that roam our neighborhood. Their diligent grazing inspired us to imagine them as professional landscapers, running a "full-service" company that brings nature's charm right to your doorstep. This vision led to the creation of our first book, 'The Great Landscapers.'"
** From Awe to Inspiration: The Birth of "The Great Competitors, Dolphin Duel".**
One unforgettable day in Maui, we set off on a small boat toward the island of Lanai’i. To our astonishment, we encountered a massive pod of 50 to 75 Spinner Dolphins, their acrobatic leaps and spins leaving us in awe. Even the baby dolphins, just 2 to 3 feet long, showcased their playful skills—a sight few are lucky enough to witness, let alone capture on video.
This incredible experience sparked the creation of our story, "The Great Competitors:Dolphin Duel," where the Spinners and Bottlenose Dolphins engage in a thrilling competition for fame.
** Little Birds, Big Hearts: The Resilient Burrowing Owls of Florida**.
We discovered these wonderful birds after they discovered us! They moved onto our front lawn, dug a burrow in the sandy soil, and stayed for a couple of months. It was a delight to watch their humorous antics, like scolding me if I got closer than 20 feet and bobbing around, cocking their heads. This inspired us to take photos and videos, and eventually write about them in our third book, "The Great Little Owls: Ollie and Molly's Journey".
I use the terms "we" and “our” because I have a "junior partner" who does desktop publishing, image editing and VP of Marketing duties! She likes to keep a low profile...
I have diverse job experience. Suffice it to say that I taught English (and 1 Economics class) in Harbin, China for 2 school years at 2 colleges. I worked with younger kids a fair amount during college and enjoyed that.
I have a kids' sense of humor sometimes, my best professional attribute.
